Each BBQ spot in the East St. Louis has something they do very well. My favorite things here are the snoot chips, BBQ wings, and the Carmel Cake... Which I take home to event a different dessert. I am not to keen on the sides, the portions are decent.

A complete shot in the dark. We are from Texas (yeah...yeah) and wanted some BBQ. Pulled up yelp and found this awesome little place. The menu is super simple and there is just enough variety to not over complicate things. I had the pork sammich that is topped with cole slaw...awesome and super messy. I also got the corn nuggets which were pretty awesome too. Don't know that I have ever had anything like them before. They came with a ranch dipping sauce. My girl got the $1 a piece whole wings. I was so-so on her sauce choice, but she loved em. Nice and messy too. The staff was rather pleasant, and even asked if we enjoyed it as we left. Give Big Mama's a try, you might enjoy it too.

Let me tell you. I was visiting from San Diego and my Family brought me here and it was amazing!!! I decided to order the broham sandwich and caramel cake. These items were purchased while going through drive-thru so there was a slight wait on the sandwich but when I received my food I was not disappointed at all. The bun was very soft and held very well was not too soggy and did not break. The Meat was my favorite part because it was seasoned perfectly with the right amount of sauce but also the meat was tender. I am a dessert freak so when I received the caramel cake and it was made well. I literally melted!!! The icing was very sweet but the cake was so moist it just disappeared with each bite. Well don't take my word for it, try it yourself. When I come back that is exactly what I will get.

My parents regularly get their chicken wings. I've tried them and they're really good. If you don't like tons of sauce, my advice would be to get it on the side. I've had a chicken sandwich from here before and it was meh. The chicken was moist but the sauce sucked. I wish I remembered what it was but It was gross. The fries are always hot which is a big deal for me. TWO WORDS: caramel cake. If you aren't satisfied with the BBQ at least get a slice of caramel cake. It's delicious. But it goes fast so get it while you can!

I walked away wishing I was not as "adventurous" and got the pulled pork, chicken or brisket sandwiches with more traditional BBQ sides. What I ordered was not my style so I am willing to round up to 3 stars for A-OK. We ordered & shared from the cute & nice counter girl- "The Cooter" $9.99 with beef (a double hamburger with fries & cheese sauce... I wish I ordered the chicken) -the buns was split with 2 patties, fries & cheese between -Cheese sauce was worth clogging my arteries. The mix of nacho cheese & cheddar (?) & amount was great. -the fries were descent & the amount was great -the beef or hamburger patties to charcoaled grilled to me & were very good -A handful of jalapeno slices were on the side "Sticky Wings & Snoots" $8.49 (sweet glazed wings & eatocracy.cnn.com/2012/1… -sticky wings were fried nice, but the sauce was too sweet for my taste (side note, each wing needs multiple napkins to pull the sticky sauce off your hands) -snoot (the fatty tissue from around a pig's nose)... I admit that I never had them before so I am not an authority. My friend that had them before said that these were too hard & not very good. MY TAKE- a bad combination of "fried pork skin" & thick over cooked & day old bacon fat (w/o the meat)... There was no cutting this with a plastic knife and had to be chewed somewhat like thick jerky fat w/ BBQ sauce.

I'm sorry Big Mama, but I am so disappointed in my meal and the service. I was on my way to Fairview Heights to a funeral service and following navigation directions from Siri when I spotted Big Mama's BBQ Express in East St. Louis. I said to myself, "sweet, gonna stop here on my way back". I saw chicken wings on the menu and didn't need to look any further. I drove through the drive thru line and my order was taken quickly. However, I could have gone to the Gateway Arch and back and would have still been waiting for my order! The girls inside just did not smile or give me any Midwestern hospitality. Once I got my order I pulled over and parked to smell and taste the delicious goodness I thought would make up for the disappointing experience. Nope, wings were just like Costco frozen bag and sauce was drenched too much (as another reviewer mentioned) and not that spicy either. I suppose this would be a good stop on the way home from the kitty bars which are just on the other side of 64.

I ordered several different items from Big Mama's and I wish I would have gone to a different restaurant. I ordered the rib tips, the cooter, pulled chicken, and a classic burger with cheese. First the good... The fries with the cooter were excellent. The cooter had two patties with cheese fries. The combination of chipotle, ranch, and nacho cheese over the fries and burger were good. Unfortunately, the beef patties were dried out with little flavor. The rest of the menu was bad. The rib tips were also over cooked and the sauce tasted like watered down tomato sauce. The classic burger was overcooked and dry. The lettuce, tomato, and onions are served on the side. It had no condiments such as mayonnaise, ketchup, or mustard. Finally, the pulled chicken is the worst I have ever had. The chicken tastes like it has been sitting under a warmer for a few days. The sauce was really bad and everyone that sampled it agreed it was not suitable for human consumption. There may be something worth eating at Big Mama's, but I have no plans on going to this place again.
